Overall Joseph Lister made many significant contributions to the science community that have had a major impact on current forms of medicine and surgery. He coagulated blood to ease swelling and inflammation and discovered that infections were caused by tiny organisms and that keeping the operating space clean there was less risk for infection. On top of this he began using Carbolic Acid to clean wounds, tools, bandages, and his hands. Lastly, Lister implemented the rule that all surgeons must wear clean gloves every time they work with a patient. Had it not been for his innovation with antiseptics and making the operating room cleaner there still could be a fifty percent mortality rate from surgery. It's possible that there could be even more kinds of infections around if it weren't for his work. Thanks to Lister surgery is much safer now and the mortality rate of most surgeries is very low. All in all, Joseph Lister revolutionized surgery and helped make several improvements to it.
